Course description: "The increasing presence of technology in the workplace has changed the way we present information and conduct training, both in person and virtually. In this course, students hone their presentation and training skills by assessing their audience, purpose, and desired learning outcomes. Students practice using appropriate and memorable visual aids in order to maximize audience and participant engagement. Students employ communication strategies and training techniques to improve participants' receptivity and retention of information and ideas. Whether presenting or training in person or virtually, students will gain the skills and confidence needed for effective communication across varied delivery methods." Reflection: All of the assignments in this course integrated and applied the course concepts in the practice of presenting and training. This successive progression of assignments involved evaluating an organization's training requirements, creating a training plan to address those needs, and incorporating and adjusting based on feedback. Each assignment had a goal: to prepare, rehearse, and execute presentation and training best practices. This process allowed students to apply theory through hands-on learning.
A major course assignment involved developing a practical workplace training proposal. This proposal employed best slideshow practices for presenting the training agenda. It also used icebreakers to engage participants, explained training goals and their relevance to the challenge, outlined desired outcomes, included visual aids, and featured an end-of-training survey.
